After days of uncertainty and speculation, a consensus was finally reached at the G20 summit on Thursday, and on Saturday, the declaration was officially accepted in New Delhi. The news was met with a grand reception, as numerous leaders and officials hailed this accord as a “historic” moment. They attributed this historic consensus to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that the declaration highlights a global agenda centered around humanity.
Prime Minister Modi made the announcement of the declaration’s acceptance on Saturday afternoon, and the reactions started pouring in immediately.
A heartfelt thank you to the esteemed members of this prominent group. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had previously shared on Twitter, “Today, the #NewDelhiLeadersDeclaration at the #G20 leaders’ summit has been officially accepted. The commitment of @PMOIndia @narendramodi towards a globally transformative approach that prioritizes humanity and addresses global challenges has resonated with our fellow leaders. We are grateful to all G20 members for their cooperation and support.”
India’s G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, described this declaration as “profound and intellectual” and stressed that it signifies an era where collaboration and consensus prevail over conflict, especially in light of the geopolitical challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“In various domains, be it health, multilateral development banks, climate change, or aviation issues, as people delved into this declaration, it becomes evident how much value the G20 has added. It reflects the leadership of PM @narendramodi in today’s world,” wrote Mr. Kant in his post.
Former diplomat Shri Puri, who played a role in reworking the Indian statement following the Russia-Ukraine conflict, remarked, “These revised Indian statements emerge as highly knowledgeable and intellectually profound. It signifies an era where collaboration and consensus take precedence over conflict. The reference to geopolitical aspects, especially in the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, underscores the value that the G20 has added. It truly reflects PM @narendramodi’s leadership in today’s world,” Shri Puri stated in his post.
This development serves as an inspiration to utilize these extensive platforms to create something new in the post-COVID world, showcasing a distinctively Indian approach. We should acknowledge the achievements based on factual grounds – the participation of more than 60 Indian cities, the organization of over 220 meetings spanning various areas, including health, multilateral development banks, aviation issues, and climate finance. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, described the acceptance of the declaration as a remarkable achievement and a clear endorsement of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
