Emergency news : In a span of just two days, Himachal Pradesh has been struck by a relentless monsoon fury, claiming the lives of at least 50 people. Among them, nine individuals have been found dead in the debris of the Shimla temple. The state weather department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for the next two days.

The Shimla city has witnessed a tragic incident where nine people lost their lives due to a landslide triggered by incessant rains. Last night, following a cloud burst, seven members of a single family were swept away in a tragic incident.

Two landslide incidents in Shimla have left around 15 to 20 people trapped and fears of more being affected loom large, according to Aditya Negi, Deputy Commissioner of Shimla. The authorities are making every effort to rescue those stranded.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhavinder Singh Sukhu has directed officials to ensure all possible support and assistance to the affected families. He has urged people to avoid traveling to the disaster-prone areas and to exercise caution.

Due to continuous heavy rainfall, over 700 roads in the state are closed, especially in Shimla and Chamba. The national highway connecting Shimla and Chandigarh has been affected severely due to ongoing landslides.

With the safety of students in mind, schools, colleges, and educational institutions have been shut down. All examinations for undergraduate and postgraduate courses have been postponed.

The Indian Meteorological Department has informed that Himachal Pradesh and neighboring Uttarakhand are experiencing heavy rainfall. The worst-hit areas include Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti. The losses due to this incessant rain are estimated at around 7,000 crores INR. While 1,376 houses have been damaged till now, partial damage has been reported in 7,935 houses.

Since the onset of monsoon on June 24, Himachal Pradesh has borne the brunt of monsoon havoc, resulting in the tragic loss of over 260 lives.
