VIJAYAWADA: Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, the Mangalagiri MLA who defeated TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh in the 2019 elections, unexpectedly resigned from both his position and the YSRC primary membership. The action is being taken just before the State’s anticipated three- to four-month election cycle.

The two-time MLA allegedly took issue with the party leadership’s disregard for him in the previous few months. Due to Speaker Tammineni Sitaram’s absence, he submitted his resignation to Speaker (Officer on Special Duty) Satyanarayana Reddy.

During the pre-election campaign, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the president of the YSRC, declared in the open that Ramakrishna Reddy would be appointed to his Cabinet as a minister in case the Mangalagiri people elected him. But Ramakrishna Reddy was not admitted into the Cabinet of Jagan Mohan Reddy. His hopes of being taken into consideration for a spot in the reshuffle were also shattered. Ramakrishna Reddy withdrew from party activities after that because he was dissatisfied with the party leadership.

Conversely, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, his brother, was appointed the party coordinator for the districts of Guntur and Krishna along with receiving a nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

Ramakrishna Reddy gave a press conference following his resignation and stated, “I worked honestly and served the people of Mangalagiri.” I express my gratitude to Jagan Mohan Reddy for this opportunity. For personal reasons, I am resigning.”

Reddy promised to disclose the causes at a later time.

According to information obtained, the party has chosen to run a BC candidate in the Mangalagiri Assembly district for the 2024 election. There is a sizable weaver community in Mangalagiri, and the party reportedly narrowed down on Ganji Chiranjeevi to run for the seat after Ramakrishna Reddy’s campaign did not go as planned.
