IT raids various locations in Tamil Nadu allegedly linked to DMK leader Vasugi Murugesan and PWD minister EV Velu

KARUR (Tamil Nadu): The Income Tax Department searched a number of places in the Tamil Nadu district of Karur.

According to reports, raids were conducted at multiple locations connected to late DMK leader Vasugi Murugesan and Tamil Nadu Minister of Highways and PWD, EV Velu. IT officers searched the home of the late Vasugi Murugan’s sister and an area that EV Velu liked.

In Thiruvanamalai, searches were also carried out by Income Tax officials at the Arunai Engineering College (AEC). EV Velu founded the AEC in 1993.

Prior to the search, local police and CISF security personnel were mobilized.

Additionally, income tax officers are raiding the home of late Karur district DMK secretary Vasugi Murugesan’s sister Padma, which is under Karur Corporation’s Periyar Nagar area.
In a similar vein, searches were conducted at the Gandhipuram office of Annex Fabrics, a financial institution run by businessman Suresh, and at the businessman’s residence in the Vayapuri Nagar neighborhood of the Karur district.

Sakthivel, the former chairman of the DMK, is currently the target of searches at his home in the Thottakurichi neighborhood.

Prior to this, IT raids were also carried out in a number of Tamil Nadu locations concerning suppliers and contractors who provide equipment to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).

Approximately ten locations in Chennai were raided, including India Private Limited and Radha Engineering Works Private Limited.

The Enforcement Directorate raided a close aide of Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji earlier in September. Balaji is one of the accused in an alleged cash-for-jobs scam. The minister’s unidentified aide’s roughly ten properties were raided.

On June 14, Balaji was taken into custody by ED officers in relation to the cash-for-jobs scheme.

On October 6, IT assistance was also provided at locations connected to DMK MP S Jagathrakshakan.
