‘India may drop the World Cup…’: Mohammad Kaif’s cautions Dravid, Rohit with blazing post despite win in 1st AUS ODI

Team India seems like a real powerhouse as we gear up for the ODI World Cup. Just last week, they clinched the Asia Cup title, and in Mohali on Friday, they outclassed Australia, propelling them to the pinnacle of the ICC Men’s ODI rankings. However, there’s a note of caution from India’s cricket legend, Mohammad Kaif. He believes that India could stumble in the World Cup due to a noticeable flaw in their preparations.

India boasts an impressive bowling lineup, especially with our fast bowlers consistently taking five-wicket hauls. Our batting lineup is star-studded too, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma leading the charge, supported by the in-form Shubman Gill. But according to Kaif, there’s still room for improvement, especially when it comes to our fielding skills.

The cracks in India’s fielding prowess were visible during the Asia Cup tournament itself. However, the team’s victories overshadowed this concern. Yet, on that fateful Friday, India made a significant blunder. Shreyas Iyer dropped a straightforward catch, allowing David Warner to stay at the crease when he was just on 14 runs.

The Aussie opener looked to drive the fuller one from Shardul Thakur straight towards extra cover, but instead chipped it to mid-on after the delivery had stopped on him. It was a simple chance for Iyer to hand India a second breakthrough early on, but instead dropped it after trying to take it reverse-cupped.

Warner later went on to score a fifty for Australia, but his efforts went in vain as India managed a five-wicket win in Mohali. And while the dropped catch was overlooked owing to the win, Kaif was quick in pointing it word with a blazing post.

He wrote: “Caution: India may drop the World Cup if they don’t catch well. Batting and bowling can win matches but so can catches.”

India has a golden opportunity to enhance their fielding skills with two more games on the horizon, along with a couple of World Cup warm-up matches before the grand tournament kicks off.

The second ODI is scheduled for September 24, and the final clash will take place on September 27. These upcoming matches provide Team India with the perfect platform to fine-tune their fielding abilities.
