The spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sambit Patra, shared an image on the social media platform Twitter on Tuesday, addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Prime Minister of India’.

The image, posted in X, is related to Modi’s participation in the 20th ASEAN-India Summit in Indonesia on September 7 and the 18th IES Summit. A letter from Patra regarding naming Modi in the upcoming session of the Parliament is attached in the background. It reads, “India is India.”

Earlier, in an invitation to the G-20 Summit sent by Rashtrapati Bhavan, instead of ‘President of India,’ it was written as ‘Chairman of India,’ which the Congress and other opposition parties have criticized.

On the other hand, the BJP has welcomed this move and dismissed the opposition’s criticism of changing the name ‘India’ to ‘Bharat’ and accused them of trying to defame the country. I.N.D.I.A. has hit back.

“Who are those opposing the name ‘Bharat’? Are they starting to feel pain from the mention of India now? They are the ones who have tried to defame the country from foreign soil,” said Union Minister Anurag Thakur, mentioning the opposition in a tweet. The post is in response to PTI news.

Opposition parties are trying to undermine Hinduism and attempting to rename it as ‘Bharat,’ alleges Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. “India is as old as the sun and the moon. India will exist as long as the sun and the moon exist… Every state and its people want the country to be known as India,” Sharma said.

‘The Constitution needs several amendments’
Several amendments are needed for any change in the name ‘Republic of India,’ said constitutional expert P.D.T. Acharya. The former Chief Executive of the Lok Sabha said, “They will have to amend the Constitution. Article 1 (needs to be changed) and then there will be changes in all other articles.”

India must be replaced everywhere it is used. The country can only have one name.
It is not possible to interchange two names, it will create enough confusion not just in India but also abroad,” he told PTI.
