Top-ranked ODI batter Babar Azam played a record-breaking knock to earn a memorable win for the Green Army in the Asia Cup 2023 opening between co-hosts Pakistan and Nepal on Wednesday. At the Multan Cricket Stadium, Pakistan’s all-format skipper Babar smashed a beautiful century as the Iftikhar Ahmed-led side defeated Nepal by 238 runs. In the Asia Cup opening, Babar batted first and led Pakistan to a big score in 50 overs.

Babar scored his 19th One Day International (ODI) century, partnering with power-hitter Iftikhar Ahmed, to break many records in the 50-over format. Babar beat several greats of the game by being the fastest batter in ODI history to score 19 hundreds. Babar said after leading Pakistan to a comfortable victory that the victory had given his team more confidence for their forthcoming match against India.

Babar surpassed several game legends by becoming the fastest hitter in ODI history to score 19 hundreds. After leading Pakistan to a comfortable victory, Babar stated that the victory had given his squad more confidence for the upcoming encounter against India.

‘Rizwan gave me hope.’

“When I came in, the ball wasn’t coming on properly, so I was attempting to put together an innings with Rizwan.” Then we went through a phase where Rizwan gave me confidence and I gave him belief. When he came on, Iftikhar played an excellent innings as well. When he first arrived, I advised him to play his natural game, and he was at ease after a few boundaries. “We weren’t up to par in a couple of overs, but the way our pacers started and then the spinners were brilliant,” Babar added.
